This unique body therapy is given in the warm water where the receiver is continuously supported while being floated, cradled, rocked and stretched. The deeply relaxing effects of warm water and nurturing support combine with elements of massage, joint mobilisation, stretch, and dance, to offer therapeutic benefits on many levels:

  • Toru Ogasawara

    Toru Ogasawara

    Beginning his career as a human resources manager in a hotel management company, Toru lived a hectic corporate life in Tokyo until an unexpected swim with wild dolphins on the tropical island of Hawaii changed his outlook on life. He moved to US and worked for Water Planet USA, and developed wild dolphin encounter programs for therapeutic and educational purposes. This is also where he came to know Watsu and fell in love with its healing properties. Since 2000, Toru has been training under the guidance of Watsu founder, Harold Dull, and renowned aquatic instructor Minakshi, Peggy Schoedinger and Theri Thomas. In 2006 Toru became a certified Watsu Practitioner iand in 2008 he became a fully certified Watsu Instructor. He opened the Okinawa Watsu Center in 2009 and is currently a member of WABA’s education standard committee.

    Yukako Kitajima

    Yukako Kitajima

    Yukako started her career as an aroma therapist. after 1-year working holiday in Australia. In order to expand and deepen her bodywork, she visited Harbin Hot Spring in California to receive Watsu sessions in 2003. Right then she decided to learn this aquatic bodywork. She traveled several times to USA to get the trainings from the finest Watsu instructors which include Harold Dull and Minakshi. She became Watsu Practitioner in 2005. She was the first spa therapist in Japan to provide Watsu sessions. She continued her training to become Watsu Basic Instructor in 2010. Waterdance Practitioner in 2016. She also practices craniosacral therapy, which she incorporates in the water with Watsu. She co-founded Okinawa Watsu Center with Toru in 2009, and married him in 2012. She now plays a leading role that all Watsu practitioners in Japan look up to for her talents and deep understanding of the therapeutic work.
