    Dao Yin 導引 (Qigong) is a Taoist healing art dating back thousands of years to as early as the Han Dynasty of China. Graceful yet simple movements combine with breath to direct life energy through the body to enhance internal balance. Master Lok’s skilful guidance emphasises precision of movement in order to sense and guide the chi flow though the body and to the organs. Proper chi flow is considered responsible for proper circulation, improving immunity and speeding healing. As Master Lok says, “Prevention of illness is better than treatment. Natural healing through Qigong is better than any medication. The practice of qigong ensures health and fitness for a life time.”

    Master Lok’s sharing comes from an in-depth knowledge of Taoist healing art and a life-long practice of qigong from authentic Wudang lineage. As founder of the Phoenix Qigong, Master Lok has students and followers worldwide. His Phoenix Qigong is often used to treat arthritis, sciatica, troubles associated with the weakening of internal organs, as well treating conditions like dementia, MS, and illnesses which are not otherwise easy to cure. His teaching method of this unique qigong style is effective and insightful, including the rationale behind the qigong motions, and imbued with a rare sensitivity of chi flow.

    This session begins with chanting and then warming the body through a series of yoga postures in a short vinyasa-style flow.     “To be perfect” is “to be right in the moment”- this is the moderate way to brew a cup of tea. As long as we are able to discern the different states of a tea leaf and the formation of these states, we have mastered the 3 basic principles of tea-brewing: add the right amount of tea leaves; use water of the right temperature; and brew for the optimal duration. Through engaging with the process of tea brewing with introspective awareness, we mirror this state of harmony and balance. Only when brewing and tasting is complete do we open up our communicative self to the external world and share our experience with the tea. It is only by sharing our experience that we piece together the perfect tea puzzle.

    Katherine, Yu Man Sum, was born in Hong Kong and studied tea under the tutelage of Master Yeung Chi Sum, Elmond, a tea culture pioneer in the 1980’s. A recognised tea master and award winning teacher, Katherine decided to devote herself to the promotion and studies of tea 20 years ago, organising tea activities and appreciation events. She began to host gatherings for tea enthusiasts and tea art courses at the Heritage Tea House in 2004. She gained an insight into tea, nature, daily objects and the artfulness of life over time by closely observing the dynamic between tea and the people. She felt such a strong calling towards the way of tea that she founded Teaism at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre to teach the philosophy. Katherine is also inspired by meditation.

    The sound of a meditation gong induces a state of spontaneous meditation and relaxation, which facilitates the movement of chi or prana (positive life force) throughout the body. Listeners experience a sense of connectedness and peace. They are lulled from a Beta, or awake state, into a Theta, or lucid dream state; a state that allows our bodies to heal and rejuvenate.
